English Abstract:

The devaluation of moral values is the mark of our times. This increases the necessity of sharing tradition and ethical rules among different social groups, including hunters. In the Polish society, hunting is of marginal importance, its role is often misunderstood, and the level of ecological knowledgeÔÇölow. The way people treat the nature is closely related to the ethics of ecologyÔÇöwhich is comprised in the global ethical issues. It sets values and norms regulating the relation between human and nature. Hunting ethics is also included in these issues. Hunting encompasses a broad spectrum of detailed knowledge from diverse sciences, as well as practical skills. In the entirety of hunting issues, hunting tradition has its principal meaning, which comprises both tradition and ethics as its fundamental elements. This is because hunting, amidst being subject to scrupulous legislation, also contains elements of behavior which are of moral relevance. Some elements of huntersÔÇÖ ethical conduct are addressed in Polish and international forms of legislation. The obligation to obey ethical rules has been honored by legal articles in hunting law, as well as forms of intraorganizational legislative, whose underlying element is the code of hunting ethicsÔÇöA Collection of Ethical Rules and Hunting Tradition (Pol. Zbi├│r zasad etyki i tradycji ┼éowieckiej) enacted by the Polish Hunting Council. Ethical issues in hunting are closely related to the responsibility for nature, including both natural habitat and the game. It defines the relation to nature and its proper treatment. The fundamental ethical message is preserving the nature in an unchanged (the way it is found) state for future generations. This ethical objective of contemporary world is coincident with principles cherished by ecologists, naturalists and hunters. Ethics concerns many hunting issues. Ethical rules are applied in a broad spectrum of hunting activity, including planning and conducting hunting management, behavior during the hunting, treatment of the game, environment, hunting assistants, treatment of the local communities and, finally, the conduct in the proceedings of the organization. Hunting, apart from many other aspects, comprises the element of killing. Ethics, however, determines conduct in this area, hence its fundamental role in hunting. It imposes on hunters the responsibility for the relations between hunters on one side and the game and environment on the other side. This responsibility is reflected in both form and results of such relations. Hunting ethics indicated that hunter are obligated to act in order to keep ecological balance since hunting is not a mindless exploitation of natural goods. Preventing degradation of wildlife is in the interest of hunters, and baseless changes in nature could influence or cause decrease in the numerical strength of animal population or induce depauperation of the environment. In addition to the mentioned principles, ethicsÔÇöalong with tradition (customs and ceremonial)ÔÇöis an expression of respect that hunters have for the game and the entirety of nature. Hunting ethics and tradition are the main cultural values, shaping the moral conduct of the hunters. It also serves an important role in the process of education. As a mean of constructive influence inside and outside the hunting community, it contributes to the level and permanence of hunting in the dimension of cultural values.
